Pokémon X Nuzlocke: The Adventure Begins
Session 1 October 23
My first Nuzlocke starts today! I don't know why I wanted to do this, but I suddenly felt like playing a Pokémon game. Maybe it's the autumn weather. It's also a nice tie-in to Legends ZA, which I still need to finish and am slowly playing my way through.
Anyway, the graphics on the 3DS are nice! I like them! I didn't expect them to look like this for some reason. I love that my character is wearing PJs and has a Pikachu 3DS! How cute! I love her bedroom!
I named my Trainer Penny
The adventure begins (and yes, I did tell my friends to nickname me Poopitypoo...it was 23:00, I can't be held accountable for my toddler brain at that hour!!) Also, my mom is way too ready to push me out the door lol.

I chose Fennekin as my starter and named him Bigley. Yeah, I think most of my Pokémon nicknames will be podcast host names 😅. Bigley is the last name of one of the hosts of Into the Aether, Brendon Bigley.
In Route 2, I caught a Fletchling which I named Kelsey (after one of the Pew Pew Bang hosts, Kelsey Lewin. Unfortunately, I knocked out a Scatterbug in Santalune Forest, so that sucks. I can't catch any more Pokémon in the forest.
Session 2 October 24
In Route 3, I caught a Bidoof, which I named Hanson (after the host of the MinnMax podcast, Ben Hanson. I am now spending a bit of time leveling up my three Pokémon to at least LVL 12 (the cap) before trying the gym. It's definitely a different way of playing, that's for sure. I'm a little nervous to go up against the first gym leader. I don't want my run to end already. There was a guy in Santalune City who said they'd trade a Bunnelby for a Farfetch'd. So I decided I could make that trade and went out to catch a Bunnelby to trade with him.
Session 3 October 25
I traded the Bunnelby named Sussanah (after one of the hosts of Plot Twist Please to Cliff and got the Farfetch'd named Quacklin in return (I can't change this nickname; it's what Cliff named him). Even though I knew I'd trade the Bunnelby right away, I still wanted to nickname it. I also checked out the Pokémon Ami and the Super Training features today. It's cute! I like the little mini-games. Not sure if Super Training is allowed in my Nuzlocke...I guess yes? I mean, it's just training a Pokémon, right? I am loving the UI of the game, even though it's like...just like every other Pokémon game. Maybe it's just the fact that I'm playing on my 3DS that's making this game feel so good right now. I've said it before, but anytime I play on my 3DS, I feel so contained in the little world, and I keep notes in my physical gaming journal, so I stay away from my phone. It feels really nice. This Nuzlocke might just heal all my dopamine issues 😅 No pressure
Session 4 October 26
Okay I have leveled my team to LVL 12. Here is who is currently in it as we make our way to the first gym in Santalune City:
- Bigley the Fennekin
- Quacklin the Farfetch'd
- Kelsey the Fletchling
- Hanson the Bidoof
I feel a bit nervous! Oh, before we got into the gym, a trainer outside made us battle her for rollerblades. So, I've got some rollerblades now. They make me move fast, and I am not used to it... I'm finding it hard to control with the 3DS thumbstick.
Walking into Viola's gym, I do feel nervous, but I love that her gym is a photo gallery. We slide down the pole into the basement, where we fall onto a big spider web. I fight two trainers before I get to Viola.

I've used Quacklin the whole way through until Viola switches in her last Pokémon, when I decide to switch in Bigley. He's my starter; he deserves a moment to shine, too. But what a mistake!

Bigley is alive, but damn, that was close with Viola's Vivillon using Infestation, and the Ember not doing as much damage as I had expected (even though it said it was SUPER EFFECTIVE, LIES!!) Anyway, Gym Badge obtained!

Off to Lumiose City to meet the professor! I'm so curious to see how it looks in this game, since I've spent so much time in it in ZA!
